« King’s Day » is celebrated in France on January 6th, and the French traditionally eat a « galette des rois », a king’s cake of puff pastry and almond paste, to celebrate. John and I bought one this weekend to make sure we were experiencing all of the culture here. We like culture that involves desserts.
In each galette, there is a fève, a little trinket, hidden. The person who gets the fève in their slice of cake is the king or queen for the day. Unfortunately, yesterday, John found the fève and was king for the day. He wore the crown for the rest of the night. In fact, I think it’s still on his pillow this morning. I haven’t decided if we’re going to celebrate this holiday again next year.
